The HYC: a club like no other.

Apparently, there are people who see typical club life – as one imagines it – as rather detrimental to their own sporting aims and objectives, and who therefore wouldn’t even dream of joining a club… We’re maybe all familiar with that saying by a well-known german comedian: ‘Everything for the dachshund, everything for the club’.

But you won’t find that sort of thing at the HYC.

Nor will you find jetty sailors who think they know it all. Instead, there are a number of seasoned sailors – men and women – who have left more miles in their wake than many people can even imagine. They no longer need to prove themselves and tackle every problem, however seemingly insignificant, perhaps taciturnly, but with great dedication and an even greater wealth of knowledge.
You just have to ask them.

There are no elitist cliques within the club, because here everyone knows that having fun on the water has nothing to do with the size of the boat.

There’s no labour-intensive clubhouse with an attached restaurant, but instead a superbly maintained jetty complex, the likes of which you’d only find, at a push, at the SVB in Brunsbüttel’s Old Harbour, and then again on the French Atlantic coast or in Dubai. What’s more, at the HYC you’re not moored in front of a dilapidated sheet pile wall, leaving you feeling as though you’re staring into a black hole.

And as for membership: you’re welcome to use a guest berth for a while to see if you like what you find. That said, this is entirely optional and not a prerequisite.
If you decide to become a member of the HYC, you’ll be a full member immediately upon acceptance and won’t have to run around as a ‘visitor’, fly the flag and prove yourself first.

Community rather than society, helpfulness rather than harbour drama.
The Horumersiel Yachtclub is a club of a kind that’s probably unique on german bight's coast.
