The Horumersiel station is one of the oldest stations of the DGzRS.
Around 15 volunteer sea rescuers, led by Chief Günter Ihnken, are on duty there. Their patrol area, the Außenjade, is heavily influenced by the tides. It extends south as far as Hooksiel and north as far as the island of Wangerooge.
The Horumersiel sea rescue team works closely with the sea rescue cruiser from the Hooksiel station, as well as with their volunteer colleagues from the Wangerooge and Wilhelmshaven stations. The sea rescue boat is moored on the south side of Wangersiel harbour.
The station building is also located there, where the rowing lifeboat AUGUST GRASSOW is preserved. The boat belongs to the ‘Historische Seenotrettung Horumersiel’ association, which maintains it and displays it to the public. (Source: DGzRS; Horumersiel | The Sea Rescue Service)
